Preparatory Year Students at the Arabian Gulf University Launch Social Initiatives through Their Annual Exhibition and Social Media

Preparatory year students at the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences (CMMS) at the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) presented their annual projects, which are social initiatives launched by student teams, with the aim of spreading awareness and serving the local and Gulf community.

In this academic year, six teams competed in presenting projects. The first team “Dr. Robotic”, discussed the role of robots and simulators in the future of medicine, while the “Small Action Big Impact” team addressed the importance of recycling, even in its simplest forms, in preserving the environment. The “Take a Break” team emphasised the importance of society following a lifestyle system that balances work and rest.

Meanwhile, The fourth team, “Artful Healing”, delved into the topic of medicine and treatment with art, whereas the “Be Proud” team highlighted the importance of taking pride in cultural disparity and diversity in Gulf societies. The sixth and final team, “Animals Among Us”, tackled the role of animals in society and maintaining balance between them and humans.

On the occasion, Mohamed Majed, Supervisor of the Self Access Centre, and the teacher of the group work subject, stated that this annual exhibition showcases the projects of preparatory year students within the group work course. He explained that the course aims to enhance the professional and life skills of new students at the CMMS and that it is a voluntary initiative that presents and addresses topics in various medical and social fields, reflecting the university’s belief in the importance of the medical profession starting from community service.

“The exhibition included poster presentations showcasing the vision and goal of each team, along with statistics and activities supporting their ideas. These activities were conducted in cooperation with educational, environmental, artistic, and cultural institutions that aligned with each project’s theme. Educational activities related to each team’s idea were also available for visitors to experience,” Mr. Majed added.

It’s worth noting that a total of 45 male and female students from the preparatory year class participated in organising the exhibition, while they also promoted their projects through social media platforms to raise awareness in conjunction with organising the exhibition.
