Mohammed Shahid meets with Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius, ministers and governing bodies: BRAVE CF to build new sports economy in Mauritius

Mohammed Shahid, Advisor to the President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, President of BRAVE Combat Federation and CEO of KHK Sports, traveled to Mauritius this past week to discuss BRAVE CF’s role in the development of the sporting and tourism scene in the African country as Mauritius prepares to host a BRAVE CF mixed martial arts show for the first time in 2024.

The global reach of BRAVE CF is expected to play a key role in the next few years as the country looks to increase its tourism and sporting awareness worldwide, develop its industries on a national level, and attract foreign investment opportunities.

While in the country, Mr. Shahid met with the Honorable Steven Obeegadoo, the deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius, and several other dignitaries, such as Mr. Sooroojdev Phokeer, Speaker of the National Assembly; Mr. Stephan Toussaint, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreational; and the CEO of the Economic Development Board of Mauritius, Mr. Ken Poonoosamy.

At these meetings, Mr. Shahid spoke about the connection between BRAVE CF and Mauritius and how the organization can bring in a new upheaval of economic investments, but also establish ancillary business meetings, summits, and conventions to further Mauritius’ bid to develop economically through sports and tourism.

Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius: BRAVE CF event to help tourism and solidify ties between nations

Mr. Mohammed Shahid met with the Honorable Steven Obeegadoo, Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius, who was keen to emphasize the opportunity at hand to develop the tourism sector of both Mauritius and Bahrain with the upcoming BRAVE CF event.

He also conveyed his congratulations to His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his exemplary work in leading BRAVE Combat Federation to become the most global MMA organization in the world. He believes that the first edition of BRAVE CF in Mauritius will be extremely important in consolidating the friendly ties between Mauritius and Bahrain, as well as to stimulate the tourism sector.

Mr. Stephan Toussaint, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports, and Recreational of Mauritius, met with Mr. Mohammed Shahid, with the two discussing the level of international awareness that a BRAVE Combat Federation event will bring to Mauritius and how the show will be the perfect opportunity for the country to enjoy sports development opportunities with the goal of building a true sports economy.

Mr. Toussaint also touched on the organization of the event itself and has proposed to set up a working committee that will be responsible for organizing BRAVE Combat Federation’s first-ever show in Mauritius.

During his meeting with Mr. Mohammed Shahid, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Mauritius, Mr. Sooroojdev Phokeer, welcomed BRAVE Combat Federation to Mauritius and spoke of his desire to bring the company’s events to Mauritius on a regular basis.

He believes that the upcoming show will be the perfect opportunity for Mauritius and Bahrain to further develop diplomatic ties and praised His Highness Shaikh Khaled bin Hamad Al Khalifa’s efforts in the field of combat sports.

During their meeting, both parties spoke of the potential impact that BRAVE CF’s event can have on several sectors. The development of a true sports ecosystem in the country that will put Mauritius potentially as the face of African MMA worldwide, as well as impacting and educating the youth of the country as a social benefit to the organization’s arrival in Mauritius. 

Ken Poonoosamy, CEO of the Economic Development Board of Mauritius, expressed his satisfaction in providing the EDB’s support for BRAVE CF’s first event in Mauritius. In a meeting with Mr. Mohammed Shahid, Mr. Poonoosamy reveals his high expectations regarding the partnership with the Bahraini organization, and both have agreed that BRAVE CF’s event in Mauritius will bring a high level of international awareness to the country via the massive media coverage of BRAVE CF, showcasing Mauritius as a sports, event, and entertainment destination.

Mr. Poonoosamy also stressed the diverse opportunities that the BRAVE CF event will offer to Mauritius, most notably, but not exclusive to trade and business development opportunities, bilateral relations, and tourism support increase, as well as the further expansion of Mauritius’ relationship with Bahrain on various fronts.

Furthermore, Mr. Poonoosamy is excited at the prospect of having a highly experienced and professional sports team land in Mauritius to organize an event and share their expertise and know-how to the local talent available.
