Royal Medical services launches National Colorectal Cancer Screening Campaign

Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH), inaugurated the National Colorectal Cancer Screening Campaign.

The campaign was launched by the Royal Medical Services under the slogan “Pursuing Healing” and will be held from March 7-8.

The exhibition aimed at raising awareness of the causes and health damages associated with colorectal cancer, the second most prevalent disease in Bahrain after breast cancer, by providing free consultations from specialized doctors.

The campaign was organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, the Governmental hospitals Association, Primary health care centres, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Bahrain (RCSI), Bahrain Cancer Society, and Awali Hospital.

Citizens and residents over 45 are encouraged to participate in the free fecal immunochemical test (FIT) at the King Hamad University Hospital, Al Salmaniya Medical Complex, as well as other participating hospitals in the exhibition.

Since the launch of the National Awareness Campaign in 2019, statistics have shown that after screening and diagnosing 17,214 patients, 59 cases of colorectal cancer and 145 cases of flesh appendages that can grow into cancer have been identified. These patients have been diagnosed at early stages with high chances of recovery through endoscopic treatment without the need for surgery to eradicate these tumors.
