Industry Ministry enforces plastic bag regulations

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce is actively enforcing ministerial order (14) dated 2022, prohibiting the manufacture, importation, and distribution of thin single-use plastic bags with a thickness of less than 35 microns by conducting awareness campaigns and inspections to ensure compliance in manufacturing facilities and retail outlets.

Shaikh Hamad bin Salman Al Khalifa, Assistant Undersecretary for Domestic and Foreign Trade said that the decision to ban thin single-use plastic bags aims to support national efforts in protecting the environment, reducing pollution, and minimising the threat of plastic waste to wildlife.

The Assistant Undersecretary called on manufacturers, importers, and points of sale in Bahrain to use compliant plastic bags, to promote environmental security and sustainability.
