Weekly Cabinet Meeting

The Deputy Prime Minister, His Excellency Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, chaired the weekly Cabinet Meeting today at Gudaibiya Palace.

The Cabinet underscored the significance of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s visit to the Sultanate of Oman and highlighted the outcomes of the official talks between HM the King and the Sultan of the Sultanate of Oman, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said. The discussions reaffirmed the historical and distinguished ties between the two countries and explored opportunities to enhance cooperation across various sectors. These relations will be further strengthened through the implementation of agreements, memoranda of understanding, and executive programmes.

The Cabinet emphasised the prompt implementation of these agreements to further enhance bilateral relations and expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality and generous reception extended during HM the King’s state visit to Oman.

The Cabinet emphasised that the Nasser bin Hamad Cycling Track in the Southern Governorate, inaugurated by His Majesty the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, is part of the Kingdom’s initiatives to encourage participation in sports. These initiatives are supported by the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), Chairman of the General Sports Authority (GSA), and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The Cabinet also commended the efforts of the Ministry of Works in implementing the Nasser bin Hamad Cycling Track.

The Cabinet extended its congratulations to the outstanding students of the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year and acknowledged the Ministry of Education’s dedication to advancing the Kingdom’s efforts within the education sector.

Marking the International Day of Education, the Cabinet commended the contributions of Bahrain’s educational staff and personnel in advancing the Kingdom’s efforts to enhance its educational system.

The Cabinet reaffirmed the importance of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, emphasising the need for the exchange of prisoners, hostages, and detainees, the facilitation of humanitarian aid entry, and the return of displaced persons to their homes in northern Gaza. The Cabinet stressed the necessity for all parties to adhere to the ceasefire agreement. In this context, the Cabinet expressed its appreciation for the diplomatic mediation efforts of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the State of Qatar, and the United States of America, which played a vital role in achieving this agreement.

The Cabinet then discussed several memorandums during the meeting, approving the following:

1.⁠ ⁠A memorandum submitted by the Ministerial Committee for Information Technology and Communication regarding developments in the digital transformation of government services, aiming to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of government procedures.

2.⁠ ⁠A memorandum submitted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs regarding the Kingdom of Bahrain’s procedures for signing agreements or treaties by international organisations that Bahrain is a member of, with other countries and international blocs.

3.⁠  ⁠A memorandum submitted by the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs regarding a MoU for the formation of a joint Bahrain-Saudi urban planning team. This initiative is based on the findings of the Saudi-Bahraini Coordination Council’s sub-committee for investment, the environment, and infrastructure.

4.⁠ ⁠A memorandum submitted by the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Education and Training Quality Authority, regarding the proposed general framework for reviewing the performance of kindergartens.

5.⁠ ⁠A memorandum submitted by the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs on the government’s response to three proposals submitted by the Council of Representatives.

The Cabinet then reviewed the following memorandums:

1.⁠ ⁠A memorandum submitted by the Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture regarding the progress of the Ministry’s projects as part of the 2023-2026 Government Programme.

2.⁠ ⁠A memorandum submitted by the Minister of Health on the developments in implementing the priorities of the health system as part of the 2023-2026 Government Programme.

In addition, the Cabinet noted the following ministerial reports:

1.⁠ ⁠Outcomes of Bahrain’s participation in the Dubai International Project Management Forum.

2.⁠ ⁠Outcomes of Bahrain’s participation in the General Assembly meeting of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

3.⁠ ⁠Bahrain’s participation in the Hajj and Umrah Services Conference and Exhibition 2025.

4.⁠ ⁠Outcomes of the “Manama Retro” event as part of the Celebrate Bahrain 2024 season.
