The Deputy Prime Minister, HE Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, today chaired the weekly Cabinet Meeting at Gudaibiya Palace.
The Cabinet noted the address given by His Majesty the King on the occasion of the start of the 2023-2024 academic year, which reflects His Majesty’s ongoing support for the education sector in furthering the Kingdom’s sustainable development, adding that the address encouraged educational and administrative staff to enhance educational efforts and students to strive for excellence and achievements.
The Cabinet commended the winners of the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for the use of information and communication technologies in education. The Cabinet highlighted the importance of the award in showcasing the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting UNESCO’s efforts in the development of global educational projects. This follows the Cabinet’s review of a report submitted by the Minister of Education in this regard.
In recognition of the International Day of Democracy, the Cabinet noted the Kingdom of Bahrain’s ongoing national development attributed to the support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Following the devastating earthquake that took place in the Kingdom of Morocco, the Cabinet commended the directive of His Majesty the King to provide urgent relief aid to those affected by the earthquake and expressed its sincere condolences to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the government, the relatives of the victims, and the people of Morocco, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The Cabinet then welcomed His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s announcement of The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, during His Royal Highness’s speech at the G20 Summit in New Delhi, the Republic of India.
The Cabinet emphasised that the Economic Corridor would strengthen global economic interdependence and create promising opportunities for Bahrain and the region.
The Cabinet also welcomed His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s announcement of the establishment of a Global Water Organization based in Riyadh and reaffirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s support for increased international cooperation in water sustainability, including its recent hosting of the Global Water, Energy, and Climate Change Congress (GWECCC) under the patronage of the Deputy Prime Minister.
The Cabinet discussed several memorandums during the meeting, approving the following:
1. A memorandum submitted by the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs regarding a draft law approving the Kingdom of Bahrain’s accession to the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture.
2. A memorandum submitted by the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs regarding a number of draft MoUs concerning political consultations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and a number of countries.
3. A memorandum submitted by the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs regarding a memorandum of understanding between Bahrain Polytechnic and WiSC International’s Training Centers.
4. A memorandum submitted by the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs regarding the government’s response to three proposals and one draft law submitted by the Council of Representatives.
The Cabinet also reviewed the following memorandums:
1. A Memorandum submitted by the Ministerial Committee for Community Services regarding the outcomes of implementing the outdoor work ban during the 2023 summer afternoon hours. The memorandum outlined a 99.9% commitment to the designated work ban during summer afternoon hours.
2. A memorandum submitted by the Minister of Sustainable Development regarding preparations for Bahrain’s participation in the Sustainable Development Goals Summit, which will be held on the sidelines of the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly this month.
In addition, the Cabinet took note of the ministerial report regarding the official visit of the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
