Matters related to foreign affairs reviewed

The legislative authority and the Minister of Foreign Affairs met on Monday to review Bahrain’s foreign affairs in light of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s comprehensive development process.

The meeting was co-chaired by Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council. 

The Speaker emphasised the significance of ongoing bilateral meetings and fostering cooperation between executive and legislative authorities to implement directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the follow-up of Hid Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa the Crown Prince and Prime Minister to serve Bahrain and its citizens’ interests. 

He praised the efforts of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to keep the legislative authority informed about regional and international developments, discussing crucial matters related to the Kingdom’s foreign affairs, and supporting the role of parliamentary diplomacy in achieving unity. 

Al Musallam emphasised the importance of continuous coordination and integration between official and parliamentary diplomacy in the Kingdom of Bahrain’s foreign policy.

He emphasised the importance of consolidating values such as peace, stability, coexistence, tolerance, and human solidarity, based on national principles. This approach strengthens relations, promotes mutual respect, and supports common interests across all paths, he added. 

The Speaker praised Bahrain’s support for the Palestinian cause, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, ending the war in the Gaza Strip, protecting civilians and innocents, and respecting international humanitarian law. 

The Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that Bahrain’s foreign policy is based on the visions and directives of HM the King and the government led by HRH the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister. Bahrain is actively engaged in regional and international issues, playing a crucial role in peace, security, and stability efforts, he said. 

The Kingdom advocates for the resolution of conflicts and disputes through dialogue, negotiations, and diplomatic methods, in line with international law rules and legitimacy resolutions, he added. 

The Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that Bahrain’s foreign policy aims for moderation, balance, and flexibility; serving the nation’s interests and promoting peace, tolerance, coexistence, and human fraternity. The policy also seeks to enhance international cooperation for a decent life for the people of the world, protection of human rights, and sustainable development goals for the benefit of the world. 

The minister discussed regional developments, including the Gaza Strip’s situation, tensions in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait, and their impact on freedom of navigation, international trade, and regional security and stability. Bahrain has a principled and firm stance on the Gaza Strip conflict, calling for an end to the war, protection of civilians, release of hostages and detainees, and humanitarian aid, the minister said. 

The kingdom rejects the displacement of Gazans from their lands and emphaises the need for a peace process in the Middle East, he affirmed, adding that Bahrain supported the establishment of the Palestinian state on June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, per the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions. 

Bahrain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs has stated that the Kingdom of Bahrain rejects the threat to freedom of international navigation in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait, Strait of Hormuz, Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and Arabian Gulf, as such practices are illegal and violate international laws approved by the United Nations, and harm the interests of countries and peoples worldwide. 

Bahrain has hosted the US Naval Forces Central Command its establishment in 1983, and has provided it with liaison officers, Dr. Al Zayani said. 

The minister said the Kingdom of Bahrain believed in the importance of reinforcing international efforts to safeguard global trade, shipping lines, and global interests in the region. 

Bahrain calls for an end to attacks on commercial ships in Bab al-Mandab, as they violate international laws, endanger innocent lives, and threaten global interests, food, energy supplies, and regional security, he said. 

The First Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, praised Bahrain’s efforts to build international partnerships and maintain a balanced diplomatic approach, reflecting the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He praised the government’s efforts, led by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. 

praised Bahrain’s stance on international issues, particularly the situation in the Gaza Strip. 

He emphasised Bahrain’s support for ending the conflict, protecting civilians, facilitating the entry of medical and relief aid, and ensuring the right of the Palestinians to establish an independent national state with East Jerusalem as its capital. 

Bahrain’s support aligns with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, promoting the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, Fakhro said. 

Fakhro emphasised that the Foreign Minister’s focus on clarifying foreign developments and Bahrain’s stance towards them strengthens integration, cooperation, and coordination between the legislative and executive authorities. 

He highlighted the role of Bahraini diplomacy and diplomatic missions in highlighting Bahrain’s positions, as well as the foundations and pillars of its foreign policy.
