Entrepreneur Dana Al-Shakar launches her project “Hazawi” to protect the ancient Bahraini heritage and identity

Entrepreneur Dana Al-Shakar has launched her project “Hazawi,” which aims to enhance awareness, especially among the younger generations, of the authentic Bahraini identity. The project also supports national efforts to promote the values of belonging, loyalty, and the importance of Bahraini youth’s participation in various cultural, social, and intellectual initiatives that strengthen their connection to their country’s past, present, and future.

Al-Shakar explained that the “Hazawi” project consists of a seven-minute short film that tells the stories of Bahraini experiences in various fields and their attachment to Bahraini identity and heritage. She pointed out that the project also includes an album named “Hazawi,” which is not just a collection of pictures but a genuine expression of the essence and spirit of Bahrain and its people. Each photo in the album carries a story and details worth discovering and contemplating.

In a statement on this occasion, she said, “This project is an invitation for us to delve into our history and our authentic heritage, to draw lessons from them and preserve our distinct identity.” She added, “Hazawi is the story of the kind, patient, artistic Bahraini individual whose reputation filled the horizons with loyalty and dedication, strength of determination and resilience. You see them devotedly focused on their work, with their utmost concern being the construction and development of this country, the protection of its heritage, and the nurturing of its identity.”

Shaker further clarified that this project aims to shed light on heritage professions and works, such as pearl diving, basket weaving, pottery, traditional vegetable and fruit sales, and other traditional professions that are on the verge of extinction. It supports those involved in preserving Bahraini heritage, authentic customs, and traditions. Additionally, it raises awareness among the new generation of Bahraini youth about the importance of their heritage, customs, emphasizing that they are not just outdated ideas but represent the essence of life and hope for the future. Human life has no value without identity and history.
