Bahrain’s education and training sector 2023-2024 performance report

The 2023-2024 report on the performance of Bahrain’s education and training sector has been released, offering an in-depth analysis of how the sector is performing. The report highlights effective practices in educational institutions, identifies areas needing improvement, and provides recommendations to enhance overall quality.

Dr. Mariam Hassan Al-Sayed Mustafa, CEO of the Education and Training Quality Authority (BQA), affirmed BQA’s commitment to transparency and professionalism in producing these regular reports. She noted that the insights provided are crucial for driving continuous improvement in the sector, encouraging institutions to maintain their strengths and address areas requiring development to raise the standards of education and training across the Kingdom.

The report covered reviews of 21 public schools, six private schools, and six vocational training institutions, alongside evaluations of 37 academic programmes in higher education. It also included updates from the National Qualifications Framework, with 12 new institutional entries, 31 national qualifications classified, and 46 foreign qualifications recognised.

Positive trends were observed in the school evaluations, with nine schools showing improvement and 14 maintaining their previous ratings.

Regarding national exams, the report indicated that overall student performance in the twelfth grade was consistent with last year, with 12,499 students from both public and private schools participating. Similarly, the ninth-grade exams, which involved 13,214 students from public schools, showed notable progress in key areas, particularly in language comprehension skills in Arabic and English, as well as understanding of core scientific concepts.

The report also showed a 34% increase in vocational institutions included in the framework and a 29% rise in higher education qualifications classified under the National Qualifications Framework.
