The Kingdom of Bahrain will host the meeting of the Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) from December 8 – 9, with the participation of 70 members representing 16 member states of the APA.
The meeting, chaired by MP Ahmed Sabah Al Salloom, Chairman of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee and Vice President of the APA, will discuss seven draft resolutions. These include establishing an Asian energy market, addressing environmental issues, ensuring the sustainability of economic growth efforts, and the role of the APA in supporting the implementation of sustainable development goals.
Other topics include water and sanitation issues in Asian countries and climate finance initiatives.
The meeting will also include the election of committee members.
The event underscores the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and highlights Bahrain’s international standing as a host of global parliamentary meetings. It aims to foster the exchange of expertise, discuss shared challenges, and enhance coordination and collaboration among Asian nations to serve the common interests of their peoples.
The meeting also provides an opportunity to showcase Bahrain’s democratic experience, legislative achievements, and progress in enacting laws and promoting democratic practices.
