Bahrain Polytechnic organized the first “Career Day for the Apprenticeship Program” on Thursday, 15th February, 2024, at the Polytechnic campus. The event attracted more than 25 institutions and companies, and around 800 students who were interested in joining various apprenticeship programs. During the event, the companies and institutions participating conducted job interviews for 300 candidates who met the application requirements.
A number of approved and registered employers in the Apprenticeship program participated in the event, including: YK Almoayyed & Sons, Ebrahim K.Kanoo , Alzayani Investments , Nass Group, Asry, Bin Hindi Motors, The Bahrain Ship Repairing and Engineering Company (BASREC), Yateem Air Conditioning Company, Bahrain Public Transport Company, AlNooh Wood Design, Jumeirah Hotels Group, AlBasem Electrical, Everest Mechanical Industries, and other employers.
On this occasion, Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin, the CEO of Bahrain Polytechnic, stated:” The launch of the Apprenticeship program is in line with the Polytechnic’s strategic plan 2023-2026, which is based on the ‘Polytechnic For All’ principle.” He also emphasized that the proposed apprenticeship programs are specialized training programs that support the training needs of the labour market, contribute to the development of the national workforce, enhance their professional skills, and provide exemplary programs for national cadres, high school graduates, job seekers, and workers of various levels and ages, ensuring education and training for everyone.
Professor Ó Catháin explained that the introduction of new programs stems from Bahrain Polytechnic’s continuous commitment to providing educational and training services that support the economic development process in the Kingdom of Bahrain and contribute to the comprehensive and sustainable development process, as well as ensuring the development of human resources in accordance with the esteemed government’s directives.
Commenting on the event, Ahmed AlSaffar, Head: School of Apprenticeship, Training and Skills, said: “We aim to provide a platform that enables participating employers in the Apprenticeship Program to meet and select suitable candidates that fit the requirements for the offered training opportunities and fill the available job positions.”
It is important to note that Bahrain Polytechnic launched the Apprenticeship program in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor and the Labor Fund Tamkeen in five demanded specializations in the labour market: Vehicle, Welding, Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC. The apprenticeship programs integrate study and work at the same time, allowing institutions to benefit from the growth and development of the apprentice during the program. This makes the apprentice a productive and effective element in the workplace. In addition, the tuition fees for the apprenticeship program will be 100% supported, and the apprentice will receive a subsidized salary from the Labor Fund Tamkeen at a rate of 50%.
