Bahrain Polytechnic and Tamkeen expand apprenticeship opportunities

Bahrain Polytechnic and the Labour Fund (Tamkeen) have signed a strategic agreement to expand apprenticeship programmes aimed at equipping Bahrainis with skills aligned with labour market needs.

The partnership supports practical training across technical and vocational sectors, enabling national talents to gain workplace experience while continuing their academic studies. The initiative is designed to boost employment prospects, career progression, and access to quality training.

Maha Abdulhameed Mofeez, Tamkeen Chief Executive Officer, and Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin, Chief Executive of Bahrain Polytechnic, signed the agreement.

Under the programme, apprentices receive a monthly salary co-funded by Tamkeen and full tuition support. Graduates are awarded a recognised diploma and may continue employment, pursue further studies, or launch entrepreneurial ventures.

New apprenticeship diplomas have been introduced in automotive body repair, retail, and ICT, complementing existing tracks in automotive technology, electrical work, welding, HVAC services, and plumbing.

The initiative is part of Tamkeen’s 2025 priorities to enhance the competitiveness of Bahrainis in the private sector and support sustainable economic development. Since its launch in December 2023, the programme has enrolled 266 trainees in collaboration with over 45 private-sector companies. Bahrain Polytechnic aims to create more than 430 job opportunities through its apprenticeship tracks.
