Under the patronage of Bahrain National Insurance Company, Bahrain Polytechnic has inaugurated bni Mechanical Engineering Workshop on Wednesday 13th December 2023 at the Polytechnic’s campus in Isa Town.
Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin, the Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain Polytechnic, welcomed the bni delegation, led by Mrs. Eman Salem Mojali, the Chief Executive Officer. Several senior officials from both sides were present and toured the workshop, reviewed student projects, and discussed various matters, including how to utilize cars’ spare parts for recycling in vehicle manufacturing and repair, contributing to environmental preservation.
bni supplied the workshop with the equipment and tools that enable mechanical engineering students to transform the ideas they acquired during their studies at the Polytechnic into real-time practical projects.
On this occasion, Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin expressed his gratitude to bni for their cooperation, sponsorship, and support of the mechanical engineering workshop located in Building 30. He stated that the opening of this workshop will enhance opportunities for students, allowing them to innovate and create a foundation for the development of teamwork skills.
Professor Ciarán highlighted that this workshop is part of Bahrain Polytechnic’s initiatives aimed at meeting the needs of the labor market by providing specialized national competencies. This is achieved through high-quality programs that promote a focus on applied and technical education, such as the apprenticeship programs which were recently announced at the Polytechnic. These are specialized vocational programs aimed at supporting the training needs of the labor market, enhancing vocational skills, and providing exemplary programs for national cadres, high school graduates, job seekers, and workers of different levels and ages. This aligns with the concept of “A Polytechnic for All” which Bahrain Polytechnic has adopted as part of its strategic plan 2023-2026, in line with the vision and goals of Bahrain Vision 2030. These efforts aim to accelerate the employment and integration of citizens into the labor market based on the actual needs of employers, as well as to empower them to become entrepreneurs and contribute to driving production and development in the Kingdom.
In turn, Mrs. Eman Salem Mojali, the Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain National Insurance, stated: “We aim to empower the next generation of skilled professionals in the automotive engineering technology by supporting vocational programs with innovative and sustainable technologies. This partnership is an important step for bni in meeting the growing demand for skilled workers in mechanical engineering and manufacturing industry.”
Mojali also pointed out that the collaboration between Bahrain Polytechnic and bni has been ongoing since 2021 when the two parties signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at enabling the Polytechnic students to benefit from the company’s expertise and providing them with an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies at the Polytechnic through practical training at the company. They work together in cooperative projects, and practical training programs for Polytechnic students, in addition to applied research projects in manufacturing engineering technology, and coordination between the two sides in the exchange of specialized experts.
