Bahrain Open Database launched

Interior Minister, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, today chaired the meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology (ICT), in the presence of panel members.

The Interior Minister asserted that the directives and goals of the committee to reinforce digital transformation and IT services development are in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

After approving the previous meeting’s minutes and following up on the progress of the recommendations, the meeting reviewed topics on the agenda, including the UN E-Government Survey, Bahrain’s main global and Gulf indicators and achieved initiatives.

The Interior Minister said that the committee had approved the launch of the Bahrain Open Database with more government databases, including 296 data templates of 20 government organisations. The platform classifies data, has a search engine, deals with geospatial data and offers self-registration for users.

The committee reviewed several draft initiatives, including updating and enriching e-content and digital policies programmes. The meeting followed up on the progress of the Commercial Register System, in which the brief of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce highlighted that there are 77 investor-related services, including linking four government bodies to facilitate the processing of applications.

The President of the Information and e-Government Authority highlighted a proposal for a comprehensive App for government programmes, in which the committee recommended selecting a name for the App. The panel also reviewed a proposal on the developed e-key proposal and referred it to the Executive Committee. It also approved holding the Bahrain International e-Government Forum and the e-Government Excellence Award.

The Interior Minister thanked the attendees for their dedication and coordination to develop government services provided to citizens and residents.
