Mr. Sabah Al-Zayani, Chairman of the Bahrain Future Society for Youth, with which the “Smile” initiative is affiliated, providing psychological and social support to children with cancer in Bahrain, emphasized the crucial support received from esteemed government and private sector institutions. This support has empowered the initiative to enhance its services for the brave children battling cancer and their families in Bahrain.
Mr. Al-Zayani expressed Smile’s dedication to strengthening partnerships with all stakeholders, reflecting the unity and compassion of Bahraini society toward pressing humanitarian issues, particularly the issue childhood cancer.
In a statement marking International Childhood Cancer Day, observed annually on February 15, Mr. Al-Zayani commended the Kingdom of Bahrain for its advanced health and treatment services for children with cancer. He acknowledged the comprehensive healthcare system’s efficiency, attributing it to the support from the esteemed government and relevant authorities, including the Supreme Council of Health, the Ministry of Health, and the government hospital administration.
“The strong collaboration between the “Smile” initiative and various government and private entities has yielded numerous programs and projects over the past several years. The most recent initiative involves Smile’s renewal of Abdullah Kanoo Pediatric Cancer Unit at the Salmaniya Medical Complex, equipping it with the latest tools and technology in collaboration with government hospitals.” According to Mr. Al-Zayani.
“Smile initiative continues to progress by introducing additional programs and services for children with cancer, establishing an optimal educational and recreational environment for them. Furthermore, the initiative is actively engaged in raising awareness and garnering community support for ill children. It organizes campaigns and activities, with the proceeds dedicated to serving the children affiliated with the initiative.”
The Chairman of the Bahrain Future Society for Youth noted that the comprehensive care, treatment, and psychological support services provided to children with cancer in Bahrain serve as a testament to the advancement of the overall child care system. He emphasized that Bahrain stands as a commendable example in implementing the principles outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified by the Kingdom in 1992. Significant strides have been taken to ensure the safeguarding of children’s rights within the constitution, legal framework, policies, and educational programs.
Mr. Al-Zayani underscored the pivotal role played by governmental, private, and civil entities collectively in the Kingdom, aiming to achieve the utmost levels of protection for children, solidifying their entitlements to education, health, protection, and care.
In conveying his sincere wishes, Mr. Al-Zayani expressed heartfelt hopes for children contending with cancer to persist with courage in their battle against the disease and stated that the brave stories these children create in facing this illness serve as a lasting source of inspiration for everyone.
