The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) has signed a contract with Al Faisaliah Company to supply medical devices to the Academic Hospital of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Medical City, with a value exceeding 140 million Saudi riyals.
The signing ceremony, attended by Sultan Al Murshed, the CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development, and Dr. Saad Al Fahaid, President of AGU is part of the development grant agreement from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the Saudi Fund for Development to finance the supply of medical devices to the hospital, with a value of 173.7 million Saudi riyals.
The project aims to supply medical devices and equipment to the hospital according to the highest international standards, to contribute to the development of four important medical specialties, including internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and surgery, to serve all beneficiaries.
During the signing, His Excellency Dr. Al Fahaid stated that this day marks an important phase in the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Medical City project, as medical devices are the backbone of the project.
He emphasised that signing the contract for supplying medical devices to the Academic Hospital at the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Medical City with one of the largest and highly professional companies covering the Middle East region is a significant step that will contribute to expediting the project’s completion.
He also highlighted the progress in constructing medical buildings and implementing the infrastructure works of the project. Moreover, Dr. Al Fahaid added that this project reflects the shared strategic vision between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Bahrain, and truly embodies the depth and strength of the relationship between the two countries.
He reiterated his gratitude and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for their esteemed directives to continue supporting the implementation of the generous grant project of the late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The late King directed the construction of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Medical City in the Kingdom of Bahrain as a gift from the Saudi people to the people of Bahrain, with a value of one billion Saudi riyals.
Dr. Al Fahaid also expressed his utmost gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, who directed the grant of land measuring one million square meters for the project.
Furthermore, His Excellency the AGU President commended the role of the Saudi Development Fund in monitoring the stages of this vital and important project, which, upon completion, will contribute to achieving several objectives, including providing medical services according to the highest international standards and specifications.
It will also provide advanced training opportunities for students of the College of Medicine at AGU and enable faculty members of the College of Medicine to practice their medical profession.
On his part, the CEO of the Saudi Development Fund expressed his happiness with the signing of the contract for the supply of medical equipment to the Academic Hospital of King Abdullah Medical City, which will contribute to serving the people of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
He praised the role of the AGU in overseeing the construction of the Academic Hospital, which will become a prominent medical and educational facility on a global level in the near future, and a pillar of the healthcare system in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
He added, “The signing of the contract for the supply of medical equipment to King Abdullah Medical City reflects the importance of sustainable development, which can only be achieved through close partnerships and developmental cooperation with reputable academic institutions like the AGU.”
He also highlighted some of the projects and programmes implemented by the Saudi Development Fund around the world and provided a general overview of the Fund’s cumulative development activities over the past 49 years.
Engineer Bandar Al Obaid praised the progress in the construction of the King Abdullah Medical City project, emphasising that the Fund’s support for this project is an extension of the historical and close developmental relations between the Saudi Development Fund and the Kingdom of Bahrain.
He stressed that the Fund’s support demonstrates its active role in the journey of cooperation and developmental partnership between the two sides, as well as the plans for developing social infrastructure sectors in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
It is worth mentioning that the Saudi Development Fund signed a developmental grant agreement in July of last year to finance the project of supplying medical equipment for the Academic Hospital at the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Medical City in Bahrain.
The grant, valued at 173.7 million Saudi riyals, was signed with the AGU, as part of the grant provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the directives of the wise leadership, to fund the establishment of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Medical City at the AGU in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The grant aims to supply the latest medical devices and equipment to the university hospital, according to the highest international standards, in order to contribute to the development of four important medical specialties: internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and surgery. This is in pursuit of enabling comprehensive healthcare systems in the medical city that serve all beneficiary groups.
It should be noted that the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Medical City Hospital consists of 288 separate patient rooms, 74 clinics, 17 operating rooms, a modern laboratory, and a radiology imaging center equipped with the latest CT scan machines, in addition to an emergency center with a helicopter landing pad and a physical therapy center.
