His Excellency Dr Saad bin Saud Al Fuhaid, President of the Arabian Gulf University (AGU), has officially approved the admissions results for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing programme for the academic year 2024-2025. A total of 250 students from the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have been accepted into this new four-year academic programme offered by the College of Medicine and Health Sciences.
In his remarks, Dr Al Fuhaid stated: “The Arabian Gulf University takes great pride in the students accepted into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing programme, who will play a crucial role in elevating the standard of nursing and healthcare services in our beloved Kingdom of Bahrain.”
He expressed gratitude for the unwavering support the university receives from the Wise Leadership of the Kingdom and their strong trust in the Arabian Gulf University and its outcomes over the past 44 years. He asserted that such support has significantly contributed to enhancing the quality of education at the university, bolstering its academic and scientific reputation since its inception, and establishing it as one of the foremost institutions for medical and health sciences education in the region.
Dr Al Fuhaid also emphasised that the university’s mission is centred on graduating highly skilled professionals capable of meeting the demands of a rapidly evolving job market through the introduction of qualitative academic programmes and specialisations. He said that a significant proportion of the university’s graduates actively contribute to advancements in medical sciences and the innovation of pioneering treatments. The President further expressed confidence in the outcomes of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing programme, describing it as a rigorous academic initiative aimed at fostering leadership abilities and research skills in enrolled students, underlining that the programme prioritises the development of their clinical competencies, preparing them for leadership roles within the nursing profession upon graduation and enabling them to advance nursing practices through evidence-based research.
In a related context, Prof. Abdelhalim Abdelfattah Deifallah, Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, remarked that the Bachelor of Science in Nursing programme represents a significant shift in the delivery of healthcare services, focusing on outcomes that provide person-centred care, stressing that this approach necessitates the development of new competencies among graduates, equipping them to excel in various healthcare settings.
Prof. Deifallah clarified that this programme has been meticulously designed to address the demand for proficient nurses capable of delivering healthcare services at different levels, with a curriculum that strategically combines theoretical knowledge and practical clinical experience, thus ensuring that graduates are thoroughly prepared to tackle the complex healthcare challenges faced by the Kingdom of Bahrain and the surrounding region.
On her part, Dr Hawazen Rawas, Programme Director, welcomed the admitted students, highlighting the launch of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing programme as a transformative step aimed at enhancing the quality of health education in the region and graduating specialists who will contribute to the advancement of healthcare services. She noted that nursing is a crucial pillar of the health system, as the success and quality of health services greatly depend on the competency of nurses.
Dr Rawas further explained that the proposed curriculum addresses the unique cultural and health considerations of the Arabian Gulf region, ensuring that graduates are well prepared to provide high-quality care to patients from diverse cultural backgrounds.
“This programme is an integral part of the university’s vision to support the achievement of sustainable health development goals and to enhance the quality of life for individuals across the Arabian Gulf region. The future of the nursing profession in the GCC is promising, with increasing job opportunities arising from the expansion of healthcare sectors and the growing demand for specialised care. Through investing in nursing education, AGU aspires to be part of the solution in addressing health challenges and in developing professionals capable of delivering compassionate and high-quality care,” she added.
It is noteworthy that the orientation and guidance programme will commence next Sunday for two consecutive days. New students will have the opportunity to meet with the University President, the Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Programme Director, and the Admission and Registration Manager, alongside representatives from the Deanship of Student Affairs, the Student Care Department, the Media and Library Department, the Quality and Excellence Centre, and the Information Technology Centre. The orientation days will also feature a lecture presented by Dr Ahmed Malallah Al Ansari, Professor of Psychiatry, titled “Challenges Facing New Students and the Role of University Guidance”. Classes are set to commence next Tuesday.
